Chicken Satay

Living in Indonesia, satay is probably one of a dish that you can find everywhere in the country. It’s so popular and common to eat as a main course in Indonesia. There are many kind of satay, such as Sate Padang (Where usually you’ll have goat meat with a thick almost looks like curry sauce, Sate Lilit Bali, and so many more). What i am making today is probably the most common ones, its Sate Ayam with sweet peanut sauce.

Chicken. You can use chicken thigh or breast. I use chicken thigh for it to be more juicy and tender. Dice it up and marinate for couple of hours or leave it overnight in the fridge.

Sauce. The sauce it self is a blend of peanut, little bit of salt and pepper, garlic powder, sweet soy sauce and squeezed lime.

First thing first, we need to marinate the chicken with soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, pepper and garlic powder. Leave it overnight or marinate it for at least 1 hour in the fridge. Once it’s marinated, take it out and put it in the satay stick one by one.

Originally, satay would be grilled, but since i am making this simple at home, i simply pan fry it in a non stick pans with a little bit oil. Pan fry them until it’s done on both sides.

Moving to the sauce,

If you are buying raw peanuts, you need to roast it first. Simply roast it in a wok (without any oil). Roast while stir-ing it for a while. Then let it cool and take it to a blender and blend them with a bit of salt.

Once it’s blended, add some seasonings and sweet soy sauce.

Other than blending, the traditional way could be to use hand and like a rock or tools to kind of grind it manually.
